SHIRIN: A Novel, Taqi Bakhtyari’s third novel and the first in English, follows the courage of a Muslim girl ‘Aghai’ daring to love beyond boundaries and question the unyielding decrees of her world. Aghai’s spirit, kindled by the ancient verses of Omar Khayyam, dances on the edge of rebellion, seeking freedom in landscapes scarred by war’s echoes and domestic tyranny.
Taqi Bakhtyari is originally from Hazaristan, central Afghanistan. He has been persecuted for his writing causing him to flee Afghanistan after receiving death threats. He fled to India from where he was granted refugee status by the UNHCR. He has lived in Sydney with his family since 2013. SHIRIN: A Novel is his third novel and his English language debut.
